WORK IN THE COMMUNITY!

One of our responsibilities as Masons in Annandale is to improve the community in which we live. Masonic organizations all have charities that donate time, effort, and money. Within our Elmer Timberman Lodge, we have additional specific charities that we support.

College Scholarships

Every year the Timberman Temple Corporation administers the Scholarship Program on behalf of the Elmer Timberman Masonic Lodge No. 54. Scholarships in the amount of $1,000.00 are awarded to deserving high school seniors to help facilitate their college careers. Our target schools are Annandale High School, Falls Church High School, and W.T. Woodson High School.

We have a committee that reviews applications and awards scholarships. Scholarships are awarded to qualifying seniors based on academic achievement and extra-curricular activities with a focus on contributing to the community. Many of our past awardees have volunteered their time significantly in the community, making it a better place for all to live and work. No preference is given to any person based on race, gender, or religion. The number of scholarships awarded will be determined by available funds and number of applications. We reserve the right to open the scholar to students at schools outside of our target schools, again based on the availability of funds and number of applications.

A complete application package consists of:
• A graduating senior as validated in the scholarship application package by the High School Advisor or other School Official at the time of submission;
• Plan to pursue a trade school or college degree program as a full-time student (e.g., minimum 12 credit semester hours - College Acceptance Letter/s);
• Scholarship application with all questions answered;
• An unofficial or official high school transcript;
• College Aptitude scores; and,
• At least one (limit to three) letter of recommendation(s)

Scholarship recipients will be required to provide additional information after notification of award. This is required to assure the scholarship checks are credited to the correct student by the registrar’s office. ONLY complete application packages, as outlined above, received by the deadline will be considered. Submit your completed application no later than 11:59 PM on May 31st of the year applied.

Scholarship awards will be announced on or before June 30th of the application year. Awardees will be notified via email, so an email address is required in the application.

This is a renewable scholarship, for up to three (3) additional years while you pursue your higher education. You must receive a 2.5 GPA or higher and remain a full-time student to maintain eligibility. For your awareness, the renewal process requires submission of a copy of your college transcript (unofficial is acceptable) at the conclusion of your Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years along with a verification that you are enrolled as a full-time student for the ensuing academic year. We will also request a short note about how your studies went.

Thank you for your interest -- we wish you success in your academic pursuits.

Masonic Home of Virginia

We also raise money for the Masonic Home of Virginia (MAHOVA) which cares for men and women, so they can enjoy their golden years with proper dignity and happiness. In addition to financial gifts to the home, we have collected over two thousand large print books, video, and audio devices with disks and tapes for their entertainment. We also raised money to purchase a large screen television for their viewing pleasure. Elmer Timberman Lodge has also has started a program to provide a bus for field trips. We care about our Seniors!

Blood Drives - Give Blood

Every minute of every day, someone needs blood. That blood can only come from a volunteer donor, a person like you who makes the choice to donate. There is no substitute for your donation. When you make a blood donation, you join a very select group. Currently, only 3 out of every 100 people in America donate blood. From its beginning, the American Red Cross has formed a community of service, of generous, strong and decent people bound by beliefs beyond themselves. The American Red Cross blood donor embodies this principle. To learn more about blood donation opportunities, speak with our Lodge Blood Coordinator, Nelson Figueroa. Please contact him for more details via email at et54lodge(at)gmail.com.
