From the East

Charles E. Wilkinson, III

Dear Brethren,

I would like to start off by welcoming out newest Master Mason, Brother Winston G. McMillan.

May is Law Enforcement Month, and our Senior Deacon, Brother Joe Millirons, will be doing a program.

The Lodge Picnic will be held on June 14, starting at 11am. This is Flag Day, so we will have a short program that day. We will also have a blood drive with Springfield Lodge No. 217 that day as well. Remember, the picnic is open to family and friends. I look forward to seeing you there.

I also look forward to seeing everyone in Lodge.  In closing, I want to emphasize that we will conduct a Lodge School every Monday evening, starting at 7:00 P.M., except for Stated and Called Communications.

Dear Brethren,

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season.  I would like to thank everyone who attended our Open Installation of Officers on December 7th. I look forward to working with our new Line this year.

During our January Stated Communication, I will be going over my plan for the year, so I hope all can attend.

For our February Stated Communication, we will have two Guest Speakers, who will give us talks about the Grand Lodge of Ireland, so we can expect a most interesting program.  As always, we will have a dinner before our meetings.  Call WOR Pablo A. Rocha, PM, our Senior Steward, if you plan to come to dinner so he can have a head count for food.

I look forward to seeing everyone in Lodge, and I look forward to serving Elmer Timberman Lodge this year. In closing, I want to emphasize that we will conduct Lodge School every Monday Evening at 7:00PM, except for Stated and Called Communications.

Dear Brethren,

At our September Stated, which was “York Rite Night”, Right Excellent Don McAndrews explained the history and significance of the York Rite appendant bodies.  He also mention an organization called The Worshipful Society of Free Masons, Rough Masons, Wallers, Slaters, Paviors, Plaisterers and Bricklayers (also known as “The Operatives”).  It’s based on the original Operative Masonry and the structure is very similar in our Mason Masons Lecture.  His Talk was well received.

Some of our brethren went down to Rossville Lodge on October 11 and had a fun time.  During their stated on the 12th, Wor. William Willbanks, presented the Traveling Gavel, and the Grand Master’s pin and coin.  In return, I presented the traveling plaque and gifts to the members of the Lodge, which consisted of a certificate and our Grand Master’s pins.  Later on that night, we were invited to a barbeque near a private lake.  Rossville Lodge will make their visit to our area in late September 2014.

Our October Stated was “Bring a Friend/Founder/Veterans Night” and we had two speakers.  First, RW John Schroeder did a short history on the formation of our Grand Lodge, and afterward, our guest speaker, Bro. Peter Ahearn, spoke about the VA Hospital Visit Program and told some of the stories about the brethren who stayed in the VA Hospital and the deep and lasting effect that Bro. Peter have in Masonry.  During the business portion of the meeting, we elected Jake Redding for affiliation to our Lodge.  Congratulation and welcome to your Lodge!

Our November Stated included the conferal of the Master Mason Degree.  To save time, I decided to have a Called Communication on November 11 at 7:00pm for the examination of the candidate’s Fellowcraft Catechism.    The December Stated will be our Annual Communication (again at 7:00pm) and there will be a visit by our District Blood Coordinator, WB John Pearson.

Since I’m writing my last tresleboard for the year, I would like to say it was a pleasure serving you as your Worshipful Master.  I will still be active in this Lodge and assist our soon to be Worshipful Master and future WM as well.

I hope to see you on the two stated and as you know dinner will start at 6:00pm (except for December, it will be after the meeting as our last supper).  A donation of $7.00 will cover the cost of the meal and call or e-mail me (cell: 571-490-6932; e-mail: pabloarocha1992@outlook.com) if you planning to come for dinner so I can have a headcount for food.

Dear Brethren,

A lot of events were happening during the summer at ETL and the Masonic Community.  First, at our July Stated, WB Peter E. Terrell, DEO for District 1B made his official visit to our lodge.  Second, we had our Annual Lodge Picnic and Open House on July 20th.  A good number of Brethren with their families attended, as well as members from Annandale #77 RAC, Faith #177 OES and Andrew Jackson Lodge #120.  I would like to thank Bro. Charles Wilkinson, Jr., SW, for planning this great event.

On August 17, some of the members attended the Alexandria Scottish Rite “Blue Lodge Night” for a conferral of the Scottish Emulation of the EA Degree performed by La France Lodge #93, FAAM of DC.  At our August Stated, we had “Past Masters Night”.  The Past Masters of ETL opened and closed the Lodge, and our speaker was WB Michael King, DIW for District 1B, who made his official visit.   I would like to thank RWB John Schroeder for preparing for the Past Masters Night and Allen Beckner and his wife for the Dinner.

Brethren,

At our May stated, which was “Law Enforcement Night”, Most Worshipful Jesse Villarreal, Past Grand Master of Masons in DC and a retired DC Metropolitan Police Officer spoke on service, highlighting the military as well as law enforcement and related these to the concept of service that is fundamental to Masonry.

On May 11, our Grand Master, Most Worshipful Louis Kerford Campbell, made his official visit to Districts 1A, 1B and 54.  We had a good number of brethren representing our lodge and I was one of the Worshipful Masters recognized at the visitation.  The Grand Master again visited Northern Virginia on June 8th, but this time at Arlington National Cemetery to lay a wreath at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, then paid a visit to Brother Audie Murphy’s grave.

At our June Stated, we elected WB Dallas “Bo” Lunceford an Honorary Member of this lodge.  Congratulations, ”Bo” for your many years of service to Elmer Timberman Lodge.

For our July Stated, WB Peter Terrill, DEO, will make his official visit.  Our annual Lodge Picnic will be on July 20 starting at 1:00pm outside of the Annandale Masonic Temple.  This year’s picnic will be an Open House so the public get to see what Masonry is all about, so bring your friends and family.

Our August Stated will be Past Master’s Night. RW John Shroeder will be in charge for the Program. We will also entertain the official visit by WB Michael King, DIW.

Hope to see you at the two Stated Communications.  As you know, dinner starts at 6:00P.M..  Call or e-mail our Junior Deacon (joe.millirons@gmail.com) if you plan to come for dinner so he can have a headcount for food.  Also a reminder that the dress for July and August Stated is casual wear.

Brethren,

March was a good month for Elmer Timberman Lodge, despite the harsh weather we had.  Wor. Carlos M. Roncal and members of Alianza Fraternal Americana Lodge #92, FAAM of DC, were the guests of the evening.  Daniel Aysanoa, PM, talked about the history of their lodge as a focal point for Spanish speaking members not just in the DC area, but in Latin America and Spain.  Then on March 25, we had our first Called Communication for initiating a candidate to the Degrees of Freemasonry.  I would like to thank the Brethren, more especially our DIW, WB Mike King, PM, for taking part of the Degree.

April’s Stated theme was “Scottish Rite Night”.  We had the pleasure to hear WB John T. Tillery, PM of Mt. Vernon Lodge #219 and Preceptor of the Alexandria Consistory of the Alexandria Scottish Rite Valley.  He talked about why he joined Scottish Rite Masonry and the benefits of being a Scottish Rite Mason.  His talk was well received.

Our May Stated will be “Law Enforcement Night”.  The speaker will be MWB Jesse Villarreal, Past Grand Master of Mason in DC in 2011 and a retired Officer of the DC Metropolitan Police Force.  This will be open to the public, so invite your friends, family and more especially, if you know someone in the law enforcement field, invite them as well so we can recognize them.  Our June Stated will be the Official Visit of the District Blood Coordinator & District MAHOVA Representative to our Lodge.

Just a reminder that the Grand Master of Masons of VA makes his official visit to District 1A, 1B and 54 on May 11 at 6:00 P.M. in the Scottish Rite Temple, 1430 W. Braddock Road in Alexandria.  If you want tickets for the event, just call me on the List of Officers or e-mail me at pabloarocha1992@outlook.com .  The Grand Master wants us to invite the widows as well, so please call me so I can reserve you a ticket.

Hope to see you at the two Stated Communications.  As you know, dinner starts at 6:00P.M..  Call or e-mail our Junior Deacon (joe.millirons@gmail.com) if you plan to come for dinner so he can have a headcount for food.

_______________________________________________________________________________Brethren,

We had the honor of Right Worshipful Donald F. Ritenour, DDGM of Masonic District 1-B, making his official visit to our Lodge at our January Stated.  He conveyed the greetings of the Grand Master to us and stressed his theme "Masonry's Youth is Masonry's Future" and the DDGM’s goal of creating a Master and Wardens Associations for this District. We also had a ceremony of the 50-Year Veterans Award for Brother Kenneth M. Adams, which our DDGM had the honor of presenting to Brother Adams.

At our February Stated, we had Wor. Adam C. Duncan, PM of Andrew Jackson Lodge, as our speaker  .  He spoke on the Last Will and Testament of President (and Brother) George Washington.  It was well received and questions were asked.

Our March Stated will feature a talk on the "History of Alianza Fraternal Americana Lodge #92."  Alianza Fraternal Americana Lodge just celebrated the 20th Anniversary of its founding as the first Spanish-speaking lodge in the Washington, DC area.  The Master and members of that lodge will come to visit to our lodge.

Our April stated will be "Scottish Rite Night."  I'm planning to have Illustrious (and Most Worshipful) Brother Edmund Cohen to be the Speaker.

Hope to see you at the two Stated Communications. As you know, dinner starts at 6:00pm.  A donation of $7.00 will cover the cost of the meal.  Call our Junior Deacon if you planning to come for dinner so he can have a headcount for food.

After the Installation was over, I handed the gavel to Charles E. Wilkinson III, PM, to do the presentation of the 60-Year Veteran Certificate and Pin to WB E. A. “Doc” Viereck.

For our February Stated, WB Adam C. Duncan, PM of Andrew Jackson Lodge No. 120, will do a talk on the Last Will and Testament of President (and Brother) George Washington.  I had a chance to hear his talk and I found it fascinating.  This program will be open to the public, so please invite your family and friends.

Hope to see you at our upcoming Stated Communications.  Call or email our Junior Deacon if you plan to come to dinner so he can have a headcount for food.

This is my last trestle board as your Worshipful Master. It was my pleasure serving as your Master and we had a fantastic year. I would like to thank every Brother and their families for all their support. I look forward to seeing our Lodge grow in the up coming years and remaining a strong Lodge.  November 6th and 7th are Grand Lodge; your Senior and Junior Wardens and myself will be attending.  At our November Stated I will give a full report. Remember that our December Stated will be on the 1st Monday for the Election of Officers for 2013, and will be our Last Supper; do mark it on your calendars. The Installation of Officers will be held on December 15th at 7:30 P.M. Brethren,

I would like to start out by saying thank you to Most Worshipful Donald M. Robey for speaking at our August Stated.  Although my absence for that occasion was unavoidable, I’ve been told that his talk on the Pledge of Allegiance was outstanding and well-received by the Brethren.

In September, our Brothers from Rossville,Georgia, will be coming up for our annual exchange visit. The dates are Friday and Saturday, September 21-22. We will begin by welcoming them on Friday evening at the Fairview Park Marriott.

On Saturday morning, we will have breakfast at the Great American Buffet.  Following that, we will open Lodge at 9:00 AM, and after Lodge we will all go sight-seeing in DC.   I would like to see as many Brothers and their families as possible on hand for those events.

I would also like to thank Brother Joe Millirons for the wonderful dinners he has provided for the last few months.  I look forward to seeing you all on September 17 and again on the 21st.

Brethren,

I would like to think everyone who turned out for our picnic, we had a great time. Also, thank you to all the Past Masters who came out for Past Masters’ Night at our June Stated.  It was great to see so many of you here.  My special thanks to Wor. Bob Ragan, who organized the evening for us.

I want to take this opportunity to welcome our newest Master Mason, Brother Chester Damian, who was Raised on June 25th.  Our thanks are also due to the Brothers from Mount Vernon No. 219 and Occoquan No. 310 who did outstanding work in the conferral that evening. I know Brother Chester appreciated it.

A special treat is in store for us at our August Stated, when our Guest Speaker will be Most Worshipful Donald Maynard Robey, Past Grand Master of Masons in Virginia.  If it’s within the length of your Cabletow, please be there to welcome him.

Another event of real interest will occur on August 18, when La France Lodge No. 93 of the District of Columbia will exemplify the Master Mason Degree using the Scottish Rite Ritual.  The event will be at the Scottish Rite Temple in Alexandria, and the Degree will start promptly at 4:00 PM, with dinner to follow at 6:00 PM.

Hope everyone had a happy and safe Fourth of July.

Brethren:

I would like to start out by thanking everyone who has supported me so far this year. We had a great April Stated and we had a full house of visitors. It was the District Deputy Grand Master Grayson Koogle's Official Visit, who opened the meeting to the Ladies and non-Mason visitors. He gave a wonderful talk, and reviewed the schedule of important events for the year.

A highlight of the evening was the DDGM's presentation of the 60-Year Veteran's award to Brother Claremont Leland Pederson. In a second highlight, yours truly was presented a Masonic "Lewis" jewel from his father, our Junior Warden, Charles E. Wilkinson, Jr., who had received the jewel from his father, thus continuing a fine Masonic tradition.

I would like to remind everyone that our family picnic is June 23, and will be held at the Lodge as a Homecoming.

June will also be Past Masters Night. I would like to se every Past Master make. In closing, I look forward to seeing the Lodge full of our members.

Brethren, if within the length of your cable tow, I would like you to attend the Eastern Star Installation on March 24th at 2:00 PM.
For our March Stated, we will be voting on a Petition and will have our DIW visiting.  Our April Stated will be the DDGM's Official Visit and we will be having a special program.  The program will be open to friends and family.  We will need a head count for dinner, so please contact our Junior Warden, Charles Wilkinson, Jr.
